Reminder to Everyone: Baronial Christmas Party will be tomorrow at Harleyville’s American Legion Hall. Baronial Commons and Tear Sea Shore’s meeting will take place at the same location.

Shore Meeting will also be hosted via Zoom as always for those who can’t attend the in person. Exact time’s to be announced.

Results of the Communication Survey are in and based on the information I received it seemed that the most favored methods to communicate by all were Facebook, Website, and Email.
To that end I encourage all of you to check the website regularly as I will be posting all updates both there and here. There is also now the ability to subscribe to a email newsletter that I will be keeping updated as well. You’ll find the form at the bottom of the website’s main page.
To make sure you have the proper website remember it is an official SCA.ORG site, if your not on that one, your on the wrong one.  If your reading this here,  your on the right one!

We Currently have a New Chatelaine and Deputy Chatelaine, if your new to the group feel free to reach out at Chatelaine AT tearseasshore.sca.org.   More information can be found on the officers section of the website.  Lady Ysabeau and M’lord Detlev would be happy to assist any new comers with questions.

Also don’t forget there is a weekly Virtual Gathering on Thursdays at 7pm via Zoom for New and Old alike.

Please Assist us by answering the question below, so we can better serve the Canton with updated information.  There are lots of new members that do not like to use Facebook, and a lot of the information lately is exclusively produced on Facebook, which is keeping a part of the populace detached from updates.

Minutes of the Tear-Sea’s Shore Canton Meeting of 24 October, 2021

The May 2021 canton meeting was held via Zoom at 6:15 p.m. on 24th October, 2021.

Those attending included Seiffrid Wolfhart, Alisoun MacCoul of Elphane, Geoffrey d’Ayr of Montalban, Detlev, Aodh “Adendra” Marland, Heinrich Wilhelm Von Ansbach, Constantia In Der Lochun, and Ibn Aban Khalid

Officers’ Reports:

Seneschal: Seiffrid updated the canton on COVID policy updates handed down by the Kingdom Seneschal.  The new guidelines were posted to Facebook and the website, concerning the need to show proof of vaccination at all in person activities.  Seiffrid also reported that the quarterly report has been sent in and successfully received by Kingdom at this time.

Exchequer: Adendra reported that the Canton account currently has 4350.50 and that all checks have cleared at this time.  This includes the site fee for Manannan in 2022 which was made out to the Harleyville Community Center. She also reported that the Quarterly report was also submitted.

Adendra also shared the financial policy which was now in it’s final draft and had been presented to the populace for review last meeting.  This policy was not subject to final approval and was discussed during this portion of the meeting.

Alisoun provided some corrections to the policy, this includes grammatical updates. A suggestion to change were as follows:

  • Section 1: Composition of Financial Committee
    • Striking the words “at least”
  • Section 4: Timeframes And Methods For Action Approval Under Normal Circumstances
    • Adding the option for Virtual communications like Zoom to be used for meetings and not exclusively in person.

Based on these proposed changes, a motion to approval the policy with the additional changes was made and unanimously approved.  The policy will be sent to the Kingdom Exchequer for final approval and then published to the canton.

Herald: Herald was not present, but Adendra reported in his stead that there were no new updates.

Marshal: Henrich reported no news on his side of things.  There was a newcomer that reached out to the fighters and is interested in starting heavy fighting, but activity has be low at this time.

Minister of Arts and Sciences: This office remains vacant.

Minister of the Lists: William did not attend, he did provide a report to the Seneschal indicating that he was planning on attending some upcoming events and would be completing his MoL training now that activities have resumed.

Web Minister: The office of the Web Minister remains vacant.

Chatelaine: There was one volunteer to take on the office of Chatelaine.  Ysabeau De Horres sent her notice to the Seneschal indicating her interest in the position and though she could not attend this specific meeting this information was relayed by Seiffrid.

Furthermore, Detlev had hosted the first Hospitality Hall since it’s last activity over a month ago.  Seiffrid indicated he had spoken with him concerning also taken on Chatelaine at one point, however Detlev indicated that due to work he would not be capable of taking on that responsibility but would happily be the Deputy Chatelaine.

Alisoun proposed making Ysabeau the Chatalaine and Detlev her deputy, which was seconded and unanimously agreed to by those present.  Thus returning the Shore age old tradition of voting in officers while in absentia

Old Business:

Manannan mac Lir 2022: Adendra reported that the contract was signed and approved for Manannan and the check already cleared the bank. Alisoun reminded the group that based on the existing and future Shore Financial Policy, a budget needed to be approved by November, and we were quickly closing in on the date.

A motion was then made and carried unanimously to swap out Roibeard for Adendra as Autocrat as she already had an existing budget set up from last time, which took place at the same location his year.  This would allow for an easy adjustment of the budget.  A slight increase was proposed to the former budgets food allowance to compensate for rising prices in cost. This was proposed as a 20% increase and after hearing the numbers of the former budget it was estimated that the cost would be about $750.00 for the new budget.

Seiffrid motioned to approve a $750.00 budget with the stipulation that the Autocrat present a finalized detailed budget which could then be further approved by the financial committee.  This motion was unanimously carried and approved.

Tapestry Update: Jorunn was not present for the update of the tapestry however based on last updates it was still in progress and its presentation was postponed coinciding with the next Baronial Birthday Event where it was originally planned to be presented.

Warriors Games 2022:  We still need an Autocrat for this event, and we need to secure the site by January.  Those interested should contact Seiffrid

Other Events Wanted: Proposals were made within the last year of hosting a third event, we are still looking for someone to place bids on an event they’d like to plan. If interested, contact Seiffrid

Upcoming Meeting Dates:

  • November 21 at 6pm (Zoom)
  • December 19 at 6pm (Zoom)
  • January 16 at 6pm (Zoom)

“The SCA Board of Directors aims to balance getting Society participants back to doing the things we love with measures that support Kingdoms in protecting all that people have worked so hard for. Our COVIDSafe Resolutions provide a flexible, risk based framework that allows Kingdoms in the United States and Canada to put in place a core set of requirements that event organisers and individuals must adhere to, based on their current environment and public health directions and advice.
As more information becomes available, the Board reviews and updates its resolutions where necessary in line with its responsibility to act diligently, with due care and in good faith. This is never more important than with issues related to the health and safety of our participants.
In line with this approach, based on changing circumstances and updated expert advice, on September 25, 2021, the Board has resolved the following:
Proof of Fully Vaccinated Status or Negative COVID Test
In addition to the existing policy allowing Kingdoms to establish a mask policy, Kingdom Seneschals in consultation with the Crown shall have the discretion to implement the following policy requiring proof of COVID vaccination or a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours of an event start time from all event attendees:
Events are any activities defined in Corpora II.A, Society Events Defined
Proof of being fully vaccinated must be in the form of a government issued card (original or photograph) or an electronic record.
Proof of negative COVID test must be issued from a licensed medical provider and presented in such paper form or electronic form that the event staff can verify its authenticity. Letterhead from a medical provider or an email address clearly identifying the medical provider as the sender of an electronic record shall constitute authentic proof.
All persons over the age of 18 must present government issued photo identification along with the proof of being fully vaccinated or a negative COVID test. Parents and guardians of minors must present their own identification along with proof of being fully vaccinated or a negative COVID test for all minors attending an event in their care.
Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test shall not be required for children under 12. Children that are aged 3-11 shall wear a mask.
In addition to the normal sanctions process, anyone challenging event staff regarding the enforcement of this COVID policy shall be denied entry to or be immediately removed from the event.
The Kingdom must have one person at a time checking the proof of being fully vaccinated or a negative COVID test at an event. The event organizer, or their designee, shall maintain a list of names and times of the person(s) conducting the check at the entrance. Once the entrance is closed at the event, said person(s) will sign a statement at the bottom of the list of names and times, which reads:
“I have monitored the event entrance at the times noted above, and I have verified that each person entering the event during that time has shown me proper identification, along with either proof of being fully vaccinated or a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours of the start of the event.”
Kingdom Seneschals shall notify the Society Seneschal where local, state, provincial, or national law supersedes this policy.
This policy shall not apply to Lochac and Drachenwald.”

Warriors’ Games

July 16, 2022

Canton of Tear-Sea’s Shore

Atlantia’s premier FREE event returns! It may be July and hot, but with the waning of the plague and rumors of impending war the warriors of Atlantia still need to train to keep themselves at the peak of performance. To encourage our fighters (and our future fighters), the Canton of Tear- Sea’s Shore offers Warriors’ Games, a perfectly good excuse to see our friends, have fun in the sun, and try our hands at diverse traditional games. Bring all the A & S on which you have been laboring during the long months since last we met to show everyone. Bring a towel, as some of the games may involve airborne water. Note that both Society- wide and Atlantian COVID restrictions will be in place which may affect certain aspects of the event. For details, contact the autocrat, see the website of Tear-Sea’s Shore (www.tearseasshore.atlantia.sca.org) or the Warriors’ Games event in the Book of the Face.

The autocrat asks that you read the following notice from the Board of the Society very carefully before making your final decision to register for Warriors’ Games:

Although the SCA complies with all applicable laws to ensure the health and safety of our event participants, we cannot eliminate the risk of exposure to infectious diseases during in-person events. By participating in the in-person events of the SCA, you acknowledge and accept the potential risks. You agree to take any additional steps to protect your own health and safety and those under your control as you believe to be necessary.

Fighting No marshal activities are planned.
Arts & Sciences: Open A & S display and a competition for Hidden Mountain Bardic Champion. For details on requirements for the Bardic Competition contact Their Excellencies Robert and Bridget.
Feast: Due to Society COVID restrictions the traditional pot luck buffet feast will not occur. Individual households may bring food from home or acquire it from local food sources. Also due to COVID restrictions there will be none of the usual traditional shared hydration measures provided by the Shore. It is recommended that individuals and households consider providing factory sealed bottles of water or other hydration liquids under the restrictions anticipated to be in place at the time of the event.
Merchanting: For information on merchanting, please contact the autocrat.
Other: Site opens 10 a.m. Site closes no later than 9 p.m. At this time we anticipate that masks will be required of all attendees. A limited number of masks will be available without charge for those who forget to bring theirs.

December 4, 2020

At the end of July, the Board of Directors issued a proclamation suspending most in-person SCA activities in North America until January 31, 2021, due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. In November, we asked the Kingdom Seneschals and Crowns of the known world to give us their counsel on how to proceed in the first part of 2021. We received very thoughtful responses from nearly all Crowns and Kingdom Seneschals as well as many other concerned people. We wish to thank everyone who responded for taking the time to do so, and for putting such effort into your responses.

After reading and discussing the feedback received, the Board decided at their conference call meeting on 12/01/2020 to continue the suspension of in-person activities in North America through May 31, 2021. That action reads as follows:

Motion by Ross Roegner to extend the Resolution to Suspend In-Person SCA Activity until January 31, 2021, originally issued by the Board of Directors on July 28, 2020, for a period of four (4) months, until May 31, 2021. Second by Gigi Coulson. Opposed: none. Absent: Jennifer Krochmal. Motion carried.

The original document can be found here:

While there is good news on the horizon regarding effective vaccines and other ways to treat and manage COVID, implementation of those treatments is still in the future. The current situation shows that infection rates are continuing to increase in many places throughout North America. The most important concern at this time must be the safety of all participants.

Please remember that federal, state, provincial, and local health directives and guidelines must continue to be followed whenever Kingdoms decide to authorize smaller local in-person meetings and local fighter practices. These local activities remain under the discretion of the Crown and Kingdom Seneschal. Kingdom Earl Marshals are welcome to give advice to the Crowns and Kingdom Seneschals when approving local practices.
